Results for 2010 season

Final Results for 2009 season

This has proved to be a very successful season for the society.  Overall we played 32 matches, won 16, halved 5 and lost 11.  The Centenary meeting was particularly memorable, but the Autumn and Winter meetings were tremendous as well.  There were 42 serials in our fixture list and it is testimony to all our match managers that each event passed off without any desperate calls to the Captain; a very big 'thank you' to all of them.  Of course the other key individual has been our honorary secretary who again has been fantastically dedicated and efficient, for which we are all thoroughly grateful.

Finally RAGS win the Jade Putter!

After a number of attempts, Colonel Peter Tomlinson has raised a team able to wrestle the Jade Putter off St George’s Hill Golf Club.  After winning the first leg of the match at St George’s Hill in March by 6½ to 3½, RAGS was in a strong position, but one that we have let slip before.  In the second leg RAGS generously allowed the opposition back into the match loosing the morning foursomes 4 - 1 and making the match all square.  However, this time we lunched better than the opposition and came though to win 10½ to 9½ .  A memorable victory.

Army Inter Corps Competition

The Gunners entered 2 teams in this year's Army Inter Corps Competition and met with mixed success.  In the first round the 'A' Team was unfortunately draw against the 'B' Team!  In a competitive match the 'A' Team eventually came through 3-2.  In the next round they were up against REME 'A' who beat them 3-2 on their way to the final.  Sadly the 'B' Team lost 3-2 in the first round of the plate to the APTC.  However, there was a cheerful end to the event when the 'A' Team retained the Craftman's Bowl in the team stableford competition.

RA Championship

The Royal Artillery Golf Championships will take place at the Army Golf Club, Aldershot on Wed 9 Sep 09.  Details can found by clicking here.

RAGS vs Royal Marines

From the match manager - 'I am happy to report that RAGS had a very enjoyable match against RMGS on a lovely day at Tidworth on Tuesday (certainly much better than last year's match which was rained off at lunch time). We were victorious 8.5 to 3.5 and won back the Moorby putter, surely the largest trophy in Gunner golf!'.

Centenary Meeting
Image

The Society's Centenary Meeting took place on 21st April 2009 at Denham Golf Club.  In glorious spring sunshine, 54 members of the Society (36 retired, 18 serving) and 12 guests had a most wonderful day of golf on a beautifully presented course.  We were delighted and honoured that our Patron, His Royal Highness The Duke of York was able to attend the prizegiving and present the trophies.  Full details of the day will be posted on the website in due course.  Some photographs can be accessed by loging on selecting gallery from the menu - the photos are a bit small and I'm working to resolve this!

Retired Members beat the Serving Members

The retired team came through a very tight and entertaining match at Hayling Golf Club to win by 1 point.  It was an excellent day, with some fine golf played in glorious spring sunshine on an excellent golf course.  Full results are available by clicking here.

Season is off to a winning start!

Another wonderful day at St George’s Hill saw the RAGS surprise our hosts.  We won both the morning and afternoon rounds and now take a 6½ to 3½ lead going into the second leg at Woking Golf Club on 1 Aug 09.  However, it would be complacent to think that the trophy is ours – we had a 4 point lead last year and only managed to halve the match!  For the result sheet click here.
